PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time, from sleep mode until printing of output. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 is provided with an image forming part 55 for forming an image, based on image data contained in an input command; and a control part 50 for controlling the image forming part. The control part 50 is provided with a mode-switching means 67 for switching the image forming part from a standby mode, which can instantly form the image to a power saving mode which stops power supply to one part of the image forming part, when a following command is not received even after a prescribed time is passed from an action finished point in the image forming part; a mode-returning means 67 for returning the image forming part from the power saving mode to the standby mode, when the following command is received; and an image adjusting means 54a for executing image quality adjustment for the image, each time the prescribed time is passed from the finishing of the action in the image forming apart. In addition, execution of image quality adjustment is started by the image quality adjusting means, before the image forming part is returned from the power saving mode to the standby mode by the mode return means.
