PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and image processing method which preforms more stable white-balance correction based on a face detection result. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus for imaging an object and for processing the resultant image signals comprises: a face detection unit (115) for detecting a face area by extracting face parts from image signals; a first WB (white-balance) correction value calculation unit (202) for obtaining a first white-balance correction value using imaging signals determined as white color in the image signals; a second WB correction value calculation unit (203) for obtaining a second white-balance correction value using the image signals of the detected face area in the image signals; a second WB correction value calculation unit (204) for calculating a third white-balance correction value by weighted combining the first white-balance correction value and the second white-balance correction value in accordance with a reliability of a face area based on the face parts; and a WB correction unit (208) for correcting image signals for white-balance using the third white-balance correction value.
