PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape device capable of effectively using a recording area of a mass-storage magnetic tape, a logical volume allocating method thereof, a magnetic tape cartridge, and a computer system. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape device divides a magnetic tape 24 of one volume into partitions 241 of fixed capacity in advance to handle the magnetic tape 24 of one volume as a virtual magazine 30 stored with a plurality of logical volumes, and has a management table 242 for allocating a plurality of partitions 241 to a logical volume.
