PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data processor which can be quickly and surely restarted even when a memory as a control element fails, and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: A plurality of memories, at least one of which is used as a control element, are loaded on the data processor. When a failure of the memory used as the control element is detected at start-up, the other memories excluding the defective memory are set as new control elements, and start operation is continued.
