PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing method for obtaining uniform nip width distribution even in a wide fixing device and free from fixing failure even when a fixing roller deteriorates, and to provide a combination of a charge adjusting agent and a specified toner suitable for the above method. SOLUTION: The method for fixing a toner image is characterized in that: a fixing member includes a fixing roller 1 and a pressure roller 3 made of a hollow cylinder, in which the pressurizing shaft 4 of the pressure roller 3 is provided with two annular press members to press the inner face of the cylinder at a distance S from each end face of the roller, in a range from 1/5L to 2/5L, wherein L represents the length of the roller; the toner contains a charge controlling agent and a polyester resin obtained by polycondensation of at least a polyhydric alcohol component and a polyvalent carboxylic acid component; the polyester resin contains fumaric acid as the polyvalent carboxylic acid component; the charge controlling agent is a zirconium compound comprising zirconium and an aromatic oxycarboxylic acid or its salt; and the toner contains the aromatic oxycarboxylic acid by 20 to 100 ppm.
