PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a television apparatus capable of adjusting the brightness of a backlight in response to a net light emission time of the backlight even when a user manually adjusts the brightness of the backlight so as to obtain the maximum brightness. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal television apparatus 100 (display device and television apparatus) includes: a liquid crystal display part 9 including the backlight 9b; a brightness adjustment part 11b which adjusts the brightness of a backlight 9b in response to the net light emission time of the backlight 9b; and a brightness adjusting table 10a for changing adjustment range of the brightness of the backlight 9b which can be adjusted by the user in response to the net light emission time of the backlight 9b.
