PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for treating a surface treatment aqueous solution, in each of which the surface treatment aqueous solution (an acidic aqueous solution or an alkaline aqueous solution) used for treating the surface of an aluminum alloy plate is treated so that the solid content of aluminum hydroxide is prevented from becoming lower in purity and being colored when a planographic printing original plate, particularly, a support for a planographic printing plate is manufactured. SOLUTION: The method for treating the surface treatment aqueous solution, which is used for treating the surface of the aluminum alloy plate containing manganese and/or magnesium and is the acidic aqueous solution or/and the alkaline aqueous solution, comprises a neutralization step of neutralizing the surface treatment aqueous solution and a removal step of removing at least a part of hydroxides of manganese and/or magnesium from neutralization products to be produced at the neutralization step.
