PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication module, a reproducing device having it, a navigation device, and a display device for performing mute without damaging the comfort of a user. SOLUTION: A data rate detecting part 14 detects a data rate on the basis of the number of channels included in the "FDF" of a CIP header 2 or a sampling frequency or the like, and calculates a time (data stay time) when data stay inside a FIFO (First-In First-Out) 11 on the basis of the detected data rate and the rate control of the FIFO 11 which is being used at present. When error detection is notified from a 1394 error detecting part 13, a mute control part 15 controls a voice DAC 31 to a mute state via a voice mute output circuit 16.
