An automotive external rear-view mirror unit has an attachment fitting to the door front hinge-line below the vehicle waistline. The door has an outer shell and an inner shell lining. The mirror is attached to the door inner shell via an aperture in the outer shell. The mirror root is further supported by a self-centering members and lock-bolt attached to the door inner shell.
