The method involves delivering foamed plastic into a foaming mold (1) which is formed above rear side ends (6b) and plugging ends (6a) of an ear plug (6), for foaming operation. A detection body (7) is brought into the mold during foaming operation for free sinking into the foamed plastic. The detection body is heated before bringing to a temperature. The temperature lies above a temperature which is controlled during the foaming operation such that sinking movement of the detection body comes to rest at a distance above the plugging ends.
