A method for learning foreign languages by using a portable terminal having a foreign language learning function is provided to reproduce a moving picture from a position desired by a user, thereby learning foreign languages by using the moving picture. A controller performs controlling and processing to perform intrinsic functions and voice communication of a portable terminal, and comprises a baseband processor and a vocoder. The baseband processor processes baseband signals provided from a wireless transceiver, and the vocoder digitally processes transceived voices. Moreover, the controller provides a user interface for a search word input when searching a caption, in order to search a corresponding caption based on a search word inputted by the user and display the searched result on a screen. The controller reproduces an item selected by the user in a reproduction method selected by the user, stores voice signals of the user inputted from a microphone(470) in case the user selects a voice recording function, and then outputs the stored voice through a speaker(460) at a time selected by the user or a preset time.
