An apparatus for improving image quality in an image display device is provided to reduce a blue achromatic color area to correct a color temperature, thereby improving image quality of an image displayed on a display panel. A color area determining unit(402) determines whether a value of a color difference signal of a pixel belongs to an achromatic color area or a chromatic area. A color temperature correcting unit(404) adjusts a gain of the color difference signal according to the determination of the color area determining unit to correct color temperature. The first color space converting unit(400) converts a signal of an input RGB color space into a signal of a YUV color space and provides the converted color difference signal to the color area determining unit. The second color space converting unit(406) converts a brightness signal that the first color converting unit converts and a color difference signal that the color temperature correcting unit corrects into a signal of the RGB color space.
