PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of starting display on a monitor just after still picture photographing. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with a control circuit for controlling mode switching between a register group for a monitor mode and a register group for a still mode, and alternately switches the monitor mode and the still mode according to the progress of capturing a monitor image to alternately process a monitor image and a still image. Since the imaging apparatus can process the monitor image without the need for awaiting the completion of the processing of the still image, the imaging apparatus carries out the processing of the monitor image in parallel with the processing of the still image just after still picture photographing to thereby be able to start monitor display at an earlier point of time.
