957,925. Gravity-separation apparatus. A. S. ELLILA. Jan. 24, 1962 [Jan. 31, 1961], No. 2634/62. Heading B1D. A settling tank 1 comprises a chamber subdivided by partition walls 10, 11 into a number of flow channels or conduits 4, the length of each channel in the direction of flow being greater than its width or depth, and discharge of the liquid taking place through flow regulating means, e.g. overflows or holes 9, into an outflow compartment 7, common to all or a number of the channels, a lesser head of liquid being maintained at the outlet of the flow regulating means than at the same level in an inlet compartment 6. At one end of the tank is an inlet channel 2 and compartment 6 with a baffle 6a, and at the opposite end an outlet channel 3. For cleaning, the channels 4 are shut off from the other parts of the system, a bottom valve 12 is opened, and the channels are emptied therethrough ; a spray or sprays may be provided, e.g. in the holes 9, for backwashing the channels. Alternatively, the channels are backwashed by raising the liquid level in the compartment 7.
|
