A mobile communication terminal offering a search function and an operation control method thereof are provided to search files, stored in menu and user regions which can be provided in the mobile terminal, by showing an input window for search word input when a user selects the search function. In case a menu research function is selected, a controller controls a display unit so that an input window for menu search can be displayed on a screen of the display unit which is operating(S220). In case the input of a search word is completed through the input window(S225), the controller searches a menu item in which the search word is included among executable menu items(S230), and then controls the display unit so that the searched menu item can be displayed(S235). In case one of the displayed menu items is selected(S240), the controller executes the selected menu item(S250).
