A method of recovering a tailings pond includes supplying tailings from a tailings pond to a mixing chamber of a jet pump. The jet pump is operated using the primar y flow, such that the tailings are agitated to separate hydrocarbons from the tailings. The tailings are then dewatered and returned to the tailings pond.
