A trace condition meeting the purpose can be easily set without needing expert knowledge, dynamic behavior data can be observed, and failure to observe the target dynamic behavior data due to wrong setting can be avoided. An engineering tool (11) comprises a personal computer connected to a controller (15) and is used for displaying a waveform on a screen by acquiring dynamic behavior data on the controller (15). Conditions of trace data target and a trigger which are setting information necessary to collect the dynamic behavior data from the controller (15) are stored in a database (12) for each purpose of tracing. Purposes to collect which dynamic behavior data are automatically displayed on a setting screen (13) for setting a trace condition according to the information of the database. When the operator selects one purpose, the conditions of the trace data target and the trigger are automatically set.
