<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively provide 1,3,5-tricarboxyadamantane. <P>SOLUTION: The 1,3,5-tricarboxyadamantane is produced by contacting adamantane with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of an oxidation catalyst composed of an imide compound (N-hydroxy phthalimide etc.) represented by formula (2). In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each H, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a cycloalkyl group in the formula, while R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>may form a double bond, an aromatic or non-aromatic ring by mutually bonding.
