PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure continuous operation of a mobile terminal as it approaches the border of its current radio network coverage by way of handover. SOLUTION: A method comprises steps of obtaining a first signal indicative of a triggering parameter; determining from the first signal whether the triggering parameter fulfills a triggering condition with respect to a reference value, wherein the triggering condition includes a plurality of power values regarding the uplink or downlink and at least one signal-to-noise ratio that show adequacy to start the handover measurement; transmitting a second signal when the triggering parameter fulfills one of the triggering conditions for starting the signal intensity and/or signal quality measurement; transmitting a contiguity list to the mobile station to enable the signal intensity and/or signal quality measurement based on the contiguity list, and sequentially transmitting handover commands to the mobile station.
