PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a dynamic range of a VCM bias current is insufficient when forming an initial pattern for self servo write and also reproducibility of a relation between an applied current and a head position becomes unable to be secured due to performance changes of the VCM and crash stop caused by temperature variation. SOLUTION: A head supporting mechanism is pressed onto the crash stop to record a cluster pattern 104, which is constituted of a pattern block including a burst pattern, by a recording element 203a, and by means of newly recording the pattern block at respective positions in such positioned states that a reproducing element 203b is positioned to an edge at the inner peripheral side of the cluster pattern 104, to an edge at the outer peripheral side and to a center of two burst patterns 102 among those included in the cluster pattern, the width of cluster pattern is stepwise expanded to form the initial servo pattern to be used for the propagating operation.
