PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly productive manufacturing method of an aromatic copolyester having 6,6'-(alkylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid copolymerized. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the aromatic copolyester comprises a first reaction for causing 6,6'-(alkylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid to react with an alkylene glycol to obtain a precursor A, a second reaction for causing a specific aromatic dicarboxylic acid to react with an alkylene glycol to obtain a precursor B, and a third reaction for subjecting the precursor A and the precursor B to a polycondensation reaction, where the ratio of the 6,6'-(alkylenedioxy)di-2-naphthoic acid component in all the acid components is at least 5 mol% and less than 80 mol%; the first reaction is carried out in the presence of a titanium compound in an amount of 10-150 millimole in terms of the titanium element based on the molar number of all the acid components under a pressurization of 0.05-0.5 MPa; and the third reaction is carried out in the presence of a phosphorus compound in an amount of 0.5-2 molar times, in terms of the phosphorus element, the amount of the titanium element of the titanium compounds contained.
