When fuel is injected at an early timing to form premixture, at least one of the pulse width PWL (the valve opening duration) to be inputted into the injector 5 and the fuel-pressure PRA is or are adjusted according to the change in the injection timing IT(n) of the injector 5 (SA5), and corrected according to the intake air temperature tha or the intake pressure bo (SA 6 or 7). If an allowable pulse width PWL is insufficient to inject fuel in the amount corresponding to a target torque Trq, fuel is injected in a divided manner with a plurality of shots (SA9 to SA11). <IMAGE>
