<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable communication terminal, a communication system, and a reception control method for a portable communication terminal that achieve determination of causes during reception failures while suppressing wasteful reception. <P>SOLUTION: When reaching an MC program distribution time and date and if there is area information that matches with the area information, which is currently awaited, in distribution area information notified from an MC program distribution server 5, a portable communication terminal (a control part 18) starts reception of MC program information. If there is no matching area information, that is, when outside the distribution area, the portable communication terminal does not execute reception of the MC program information. When reception of the MC program information fails (MC reception time-out) and if there is no area information coincident with the area information, which is currently awaited, in the distribution area information notified from the MC program distribution server 5, the portable communication terminal notifies a user that "MC reception fails because of the location outside the distribution area".
