PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving assist device identifying an exact location of a vehicle in recognizing road-surface indication including a character string included in an imaging image. SOLUTION: When the road-surface indication is determined to exist within a predetermined range from a vehicles 2, the road-surface indication is detected from the image imaged by a rear view camera 3, especially when the detected road-surface indication is the road surface display consisting of the character string of a specific kind, a part or whole content of the characters is recognized, its recognition result is referred to, an object distance to a control object which is the object of guidance and the vehicle control from the vehicle, and based on the calculated object distance, the guidance and the vehicle control corresponding to the control object is constituted to perform.
