PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management method which enables reservation for performing document operation and prevents a decrease in operation efficiency of users. SOLUTION: When an electronic file accessible from a plurality of users via a network is stored and managed in a storage section as a shared document, a start date of check-out processing of setting the shared document in an exclusive state in which the shared document can be updated by the user but cannot be updated by other users is reserved as a check-out start date based on an instruction of any user among the plurality of users. Then, when the current date reaches the check-out start date, the shared document for which the check-out start date is reserved is set in the exclusive state enabling update thereof by the user but disabling update thereof by the other users.
