PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for determining running stability which is characteristic of tires. SOLUTION: Under the condition that a tire is contacted with a ground surface, is rolled at a predetermined rolling speed and is given a predetermined slip angle input, load information indicating the magnitude of a load acting on the tire and cornering force information, indicating the magnitude of a cornering force occurring in the tire are acquired in a time series, respectively. From the acquired load information, load variations, indicating the magnitude of time-series variations in the load information, is derived; while cornering force variations, indicating the magnitude of time-series variations in the cornering force information, is derived. Evaluated value on the basis of the load variations and the cornering force variations is determined, and by comparing the evaluated value with a predetermined standard value, whether the tire fulfills desired characteristics is determined according to the comparison result.
