<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active diol. <P>SOLUTION: The optically active diol is produced by reacting a racemic diol with a lipase, having an ability capable of stereoselectively acylating the compound or a treated substance thereof and recovering the remaining optically active diol.
