<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a keyboard instrument capable of reducing weight and size to be less than mechanical limitation of an acoustic piano, while attaining fine tone control. <P>SOLUTION: The keyboard instrument comprises: a plurality of keys, a damper pedal, a striking mechanism sound board, a striking signal extraction means 11; a damper signal generation means 12; a sound board drive signal generation means 13; and a sound board drive means 14. The striking signal extraction means 11 extracts a striking state of a simulated string of an action hammer as a striking signal. The damper signal generation means 12 generates a damper signal in response to operation of the key or the damper pedal. The sound board drive signal generation means 13 receives input of the striking signal and the damper signal, and generates the sound board drive signal of a pitch corresponding to an operated key. In the sound board drive signal, frequency deviation of a double tone for a fundamental wave in the acoustic piano, and an attenuation characteristic which is different for each double tone are simulated.
