PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently operate an engine even when the load of the engine is changed according to electricity generated. SOLUTION: A pair of pistons 33A, 34A (33B, 34B) arranged in series to each other are slidably fitted in a cylinder housing 31, and a combustion chamber 35A (35B) is formed between the pair of pistons. An intake port 36A (36B) and an exhaust port 37A (37B) formed in the cylinder housing 31 are opened/closed in response to the reciprocation of the pair of pistons. A generator 12 (coil 45 and magnet 46) generates electricity in response to the reciprocation of the pair of pistons. While the load of the engine is controlled according to the electricity generated by the generator, the relative positions of the pair of pistons in an axis direction with respect to the cylinder housing 31 are changed according to the load of the engine.
