PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing an isobutylene based polymer with extremely less coloring. SOLUTION: In the manufacturing method, after a monomer component containing isobutylene is polymerized in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst, water is added to the isobutylene based polymer-containing solution to deactivate the Lewis acid catalyst, and thereafter, the polymer-containing solution is further washed with alkaline water of pH10 or higher.
