PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inert gas injection device maintaining a substitution rate between containers without variation by enhancing the substitution rate of the inert gas in the head space within a container and by decreasing the consumption of the inert gas, and an inert gas injection method. SOLUTION: The inner gas injection device is equipped with: an opening mouth cover 22 located in the vicinity of an opening mouth before the closure of containers 33 conveyed intermittently every two pieces and covering, from above, an area wider than the opening mouth; and a specified number of first injection nozzles 23 penetrating the opening mouth cover to approach the opening mouth and inject the inert gas to every head space within the container. The first conduit which leads the inert gas from the supplying source of the inert gas to the first injection nozzle supplies the inert gas substantially in the same way as the other first conduit.
