PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a buttonhole by cutting cloth with proper cutting force in accordance with cutting length of the buttonhole so as to reduce wearing and deterioration of a buttonhole cutting mechanism. SOLUTION: The electronic eyelet buttonhole sewing machine 1 is provided with the buttonhole cutting mechanism 14 to form a buttonhole on the cloth W by cutting it, a buttonhole cutting mechanism drive means 18 to drive the buttonhole cutting mechanism 14, and a control means to control the buttonhole cutting mechanism drive means 18 for varying the cutting force of the buttonhole cutting mechanism 14. The control means controls the buttonhole cutting mechanism drive means in such a way that the cutting force is stronger when the cutting length of the buttonhole is longer than when shorter.
