PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve the problem that a file size is increased when storing font data into an electronic document and the problem that the file size is increased when designating coordinates of drawing positions to all characters so that the position of a transparent text to be drawn matches the position of each character image in a document image. SOLUTION: Character images in the document image are recognized as characters, and an electronic document for drawing the character recognition results in a transparent color on the document image is generated, so that the electronic document allows a part corresponding a retrieval keyword to be specified on the document image during retrieval. When this electronic document is generated, the electronic document wherein the document image, a plurality of character codes obtained by character recognition processing, a plurality of kinds of font data which are to be shared among a plurality of character types when drawing characters corresponding to the plurality of character codes in the transparent color, and data showing a kind of font data for use in drawing of the character codes are stored is generated.
