PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a business computer to be managed by a management computer and to register the recognized business computer as a host to be managed. SOLUTION: A storage system is provided with business hosts 12, 14, a management server 16 and a storage sub-system 18. The business hosts 12, 14 are connected to the storage sub-system 18 through a SAN 22, and the management server 16 is connected to the business hosts 12, 14 and the storage sub-system 18 through a LAN network 20. The management server 16 transmits a communication request to all IP addresses/ports within a range specified by a user in order to recognize a business host to be managed and registers the business host responding to the communication request as the host to be managed.
