The turbocharger has an exhaust gas turbine (1) and a fresh air compressor (2), where the turbine and the compressor stay in drive connection with one another. A propeller of the exhaust gas turbine is surrounded by a ring of guide vanes (4). The ring is provided in an exhaust gas-flow channel between a carrier ring (5) and a turbine housing (6). The turbine housing exhibits a wall surface that limits the flow channel. The carrier ring and the turbine housing are arranged in such a manner that the carrier ring and the housing achieve a withdrawal movement during occurrence of axial thrust.
