<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for a parallel shift right merge of data. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for a shift right merge of data, a shift right merge instruction having shift count of M is received, and a first operand having L data elements is shifted left by (L-M) data elements from a specified first source register, a second operand having L data elements is shifted right by M data elements from a secondary data storage specified by the shift right instruction in parallel with shift of the first operand, the first data element set is merged with the second data element set to generate a resultant having M data elements of the shifted first data element set and a resultant having (L-M) data elements of the shifted second data element set.
