PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for jewelry, which prevents a jewel from hanging down during the use of a pendant when suspended from a hanging part of the pendant body and also allows reduction in size of the pendant body, by attaching an engaging section above the base near an intermediate part of the pavilion of the jewel. SOLUTION: In the base for jewelry, the engaging section is attached above the base which is wrapped around a jewel and to hold it. When seen from the side, the engaging section is positioned near the intermediate part of the pavilion of the jewel. The sum of the weight of the jewel and the base in the direction to the table of the jewel from the engaging section is nearly balanced the sum of the weight of the jewel and the base in the direction to the culet of the jewel from the engaging section, by forming a spindle part in the base in the culet direction of the jewel.
