<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater capable of further improving COP. <P>SOLUTION: This water heater comprises an atmospheric heat exchanger 10 that exchanges heat between atmospheric air sent by a fan 11 and a refrigerant flowing through a refrigerant circulation path 8 of a heat pump unit 2 to heat the refrigerant, a water heat exchanger 6 that exchanges heat between the refrigerant that has passed through the atmospheric heat exchanger 10 and tank water flowing through a hot-water storage circulation path 16 of a water heating unit 4 to heat the tank water up to given leaving water temperature, an entering-water-temperature detecting means 26 that detects entering water temperature of the tank water entering the water heat exchanger 6, and a control unit 30 that drives the fan.
