PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition, for lubricating an internal combustion engine, having a low sulfuric acid ash content, a low sulfur content and a low phosphorus content, and being especially suitable for lubricating a diesel engine using a low sulfur fuel. SOLUTION: This lubricating oil composition having a low sulfuric acid ash content, a low sulfur content and a low phosphorus content comprises a base oil of lubricating viscosity and following additives: (a) a metal-containing cleaner comprising an alkyl salicylate and/or an alkyl carboxylate of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, (b) a nitrogen-containing ashless dispersant and/or a nitrogen-containing distributed viscosity index improver, (c) a neutralized salt of a fatty acid with a fatty amine, and (d) an antioxidant.
