PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of using a medicament modulating the interaction between an endogenous SMR1-protein or -peptide and a membrane metallopeptidase, for the purpose of preparing a curative composition for preventing or treating diseases wherein modulation of the activity of the membrane metallopeptidase is sought. SOLUTION: Uses of an SMR1-peptide of formula (1): X1QHX2X3X4 are provided. In formula (1), X1 is H, or an amino acid chain selected from X1=R or G, X1=RR, X1=PRR, X1=GPRR, X1=RGPRR and X1=VRGPRR; X2 is N, G or D; X3 is P or L; and X4 is R or T.
