<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for commercially advantageous production of trans-1,2-cyclohexane dimethanol useful as a raw material for various industrial base materials, and as a medicine in a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: A dialkyl 1,2-cyclohexanedicarboxylate having a trans isomer content of ≥80% is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst. The hydrogenation reaction is efficiently carried out with high pressure hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst, to give trans-1,2-cyclohexane dimethanol in high selectivity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
