PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder in which defective paper feed is prevented from occurring even if curled paper sheets are fed. SOLUTION: This paper feeder 1 for paper sheets P comprises: a loading plate 2 on which the paper sheets P are loaded; a torsional spring 8 for biasing the loading plate 2 upward; and a pickup roller 3 disposed above the loading plate 2, holding the paper sheets P between itself and the loading plate 2 at the downstream side end in the conveying direction, and rotatingly driven to convey the paper sheets P.
