The drive train for a turbocharger, for an internal combustion motor, has a magneto-rheological clutch (1) between the crankshaft and the turbine to connect and disconnect the crankshaft to and from the turbine. The clutch assembly has a static ferrous core (2) bonded to an inner housing (4) and a cylinder coil (5) to generate a magnetic field. A two-part rotating unit (3), keyed to the drive take-off shaft (9), is held together by a secondary plate (7) and spacer (6). A non-magnetic clutch shaft (10) is at the primary plate (12).
