PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network device which enables even a user poor in having high-level knowledge of packet filtering to easily set and execute a packet filtering rule. SOLUTION: On reception of a request for acquisition of data, a network device 1 determines whether data transfer should be permitted or not on the basis of various rules (a hierarchical filtering rule etc.). The network device 1 allows a packet to pass through when permitting data transfer but discards the packet when not permitting data transfer. When updating various rules is required due to new opening, removal, or the like of servers, the user registers a desired rule from a GUI screen provided in the network device 1. The network device 1 verifies various rules stored in the device itself on the basis of the registered rule and updates the various rules on the basis of the verification result and executes filtering.
