PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning signal line driving circuit and a display device driving method that can obtain high-quality images while suppressing power consumption and heat generation of a data signal line driving circuit at a low cost. SOLUTION: A gate driver 4 is provided with a scanning signal output circuit 41 alternately carrying out scanning for driving an odd line or even line of a scanning signal line in order and scanning for driving the other odd line or even line of the scanning signal line in order; a starting frequency detecting circuit 42 detecting the starting frequency M of a clock signal in a high level period of a start signal SP input from the outside; a scanning order setting circuit 43 setting a scanning order by the scanning signal output circuit 41 in accordance with the starting frequency M; and a start signal generating circuit 44 generating the start signal SP output to a scanning signal line driving circuit 4 in a next stage.
