PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium discrimination device capable of accurately automatically discriminating various kinds of recording media without being influenced by shadow or a light spot part caused by an adhesive matter adhering to a lens on a photographic image on the surface of the recording medium. SOLUTION: The recording medium discrimination device is equipped with a CMOS area sensor 211 reading the image on the surface of the recording medium, a data arithmetic operation circuit 705 removing image information due to the adhesive matter from image information read by the CMOS area sensor, and a CPU 210 discriminating the kind of the recording medium based on the image information obtained after removing the image information due to dust from the image information read by the CMOS area sensor by the data arithmetic operation circuit.
