PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent image staining caused by re-adhering toner which adheres to an intermediate transfer body from a cleaning member again while restraining upsizing of an image forming apparatus and lowering of productivity in printing. SOLUTION: It is determined whether or not the re-adhering toner exists which comes off from the cleaning member 42 when the cleaning member 42 separates from the intermediate transfer body 30 and which adheres again to the intermediate transfer body 30. When determined that the re-adhering toner exists, control is performed so that the re-adhering toner may be collected from the intermediate transfer body 30 to an electrostatic latent image carrier 4 in a primary transfer region 15. When the re-adhering toner is collected, bias applied to a primary transfer member 14 is switched to have a reverse polarity to that of primary transfer bias only in timing in which the re-adhering toner passes through the primary transfer region 15.
