PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the response speed of a liquid crystal display device without increasing the circuit scale. SOLUTION: An auxiliary capacity line Csi is provided in conformation to each line of a pixel circuit, and a specific voltage for enhancing an effective voltage to be applied to a liquid crystal element is applied to the auxiliary capacity line Csi in a part of a non-selection period of scanning lines Gi. According to this, the response speed of the liquid crystal element is enhanced without increasing the circuit scale. The auxiliary capacity lines Csi are divided to a plurality of groups; the specific voltage is applied to the auxiliary capacity lines in each group at the same time, and a back light is lighted and extinguished synchronously therewith.
