The airbag (10) has an indent (25) facing a rider or facing away from the rider in an inflated state. The indent runs horizontally between upper and lower airbag regions (21,22). The airbag regions are connected with each other by a retaining unit (31) and are directly or indirectly connected with a vehicle body by the retaining unit. The airbag is folded along a line running transverse to a longitudinal axis. The retaining unit is formed by a band or a belt. The regions stand in a preset angle. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for manufacturing a motorcycle airbag (2) a method for protecting a rider of a motorcycle in the event of a crash.
