<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protein-based implant having biocompatibility, restraining calcification to a degree enough to avoid periodic replacement of implant. <P>SOLUTION: This method for treating an implant having a protein-based substrate includes: (A) a process of treating the protein-based substrate with a compound containing at least one aldehyde group; then (B) a process of treating the substrate with a compound containing a borohydride; and then (C) a process of treating the substrate resulting from the process (B) with a derivative containing a silane group.
